Video: Vista on the Samsung Q1
Want to install Vista on your Q1, well it will work. Here is a short overview of Vista running on my Q1 and some features as well as driver issues I went through.
A great starting point for getting Vista to run is on the jkontherun.com site. Here you can see what they went through to get a pre-release version of Vista to run, the same issues are encountered when getting the final release running.
INSTALL NOTES:
Some issues getting Vista to work correctly, but thanks to others out there I was able to get it running.
- HID - Major problems are the lack of HID drivers, but this has been a long ongoing issue.
- Bluetooth stack - I have to use the generic driver rather than the Widcomm drivers on Samsung's site, the Widcomm driver causes the Q1 to hang on start after reboot. Uninstalling fixes the problem. First boot into Safe Mode, and remove your bluetooth device from the device manager. This will enable you to reboot normally and then remove the Widcomm drivers.
This is consistent. This is a major issue since the generic driver doesn't support A2DP.
UPDATE: Bluetooth is now working a member of the OrigamiProject.com forums found a Vista driver for Broadcom devices. I installed the driver and I now have support for A2DP audio devices.
- Video - This is still hit and miss. Sometimes the resolution switching works, sometimes it doesn't. It's a toss up between installing the drivers from Samsung's site to installing the drivers from Intel's site. I have screen rotation, but not switching now. This is my third build on the machine, the second build I had resolution switching working, this last one I don't.
UPDATE: First install the Samsung drivers, and the menu UI, then go to the Intel site and install the latest drivers from the previous link. I believe the Samsung driver contains the method for the resolution switching which the Intel driver does not have. Installing the Intel drivers has made it work.
- Floattip.exe - For some reason it won't work on this third build, it worked fine on my second build. Solution is to place in your start up folder and then right-click on shortcut, select properties, under the compatibility mode set it to run as administrator. Once Samsung comes out with HID drivers this should no longer be needed.
- SRS - Do not install, or go into your control panel and change the audio settings to remove "Allow software to have exclusive control over the audio". If you do not, then WMA, MP3, and video files will not play in Media Player.
- Origami Experience - Runs without any problems.
- Touchpack - You'll need to download and install the touchpack drivers from Samsung in order to callibrate the screen. Once you do however, then the idle timeout will need to be set in the registry or you lose touchscreen function. Here are the registry keys to change:
- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\VID_0EEF&PID_0001\5&3b27c391&0&1\Device Parameters\IdleTimer]
And then add the following if it isn't there:
- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\VID_0EEF&PID_0001\5&3b27c391&0&1\Device Parameters\IdleMode]
System: Samsung Q1, 1 GB RAM.
