According to a recent post at DigiTimes.com, VIA is restructuring it's business to focus on the Ultra Mobile PC market. Already we're know that VIA is the manufacturer of the chips for popular UMPCs like the TabletKiosk eo, but we'll see more from VIA in the future in the UMPC market. According to VIA Technologies president and CEO, Wen-chi Chen 2008 and 2009 will see an explosion in the UMPC market, and they will be following the market.
In a related press release, VIA also sees a focus on Connected Clients and the building of service oriented architectures. New clients will be taking advantage of this new infrastructure like the Ultra-mobile PCs, Diskless PCs and Mobile Clients, such as the new notebook-style clients from Citrix, DevonIT, Hitachi and Neoware.
"We are pleased that IDC sees the real benefits of Connected Clients for enterprise computing and recognizes VIA as a market leader in silicon products to this innovative product category," commented Richard Brown, Vice President of Corporate Marketing, VIA Technologies, Inc. "VIA's design philosophy has always been to integrate advanced technologies that deliver real benefits in a energy-efficient package to enable the creation of computing devices that run cooler and more efficiently with ultra-compact form factors, and Connected Clients embody this."
This view is explained further in a white paper by the IDC which was sponsored by VIA.
